Clarity: Starting With A Ministry Blueprint

Greetings one and all! Once again I apologize for the time that elapsed between blogs.
I am going to do a few blogs about Simple Church. This is a GREAT book! Very practical and useful. In this book the authors Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger suggest four areas for churches to work on and then commit to those things. The first of these is clarity. They suggest that we have a clear plan to evangelism and spiritual formation with easy steps to follow in order to get there.
Church leaders are builders. They are in the business of building lives. Ultimately that is what ministry is all about and what the church is supposed to be about.
We need to clearly define how our church makes disciples and moves them on to spiritual maturity. That means we need to coach people through teaching them about Jesus and show them the way to knowing Him better in maturity. Secondly, we need to clearly illustrate how that happens at our church. That means we draw it out so they will see it for themselves. Third, it needs to be measured. It needs to be charted out. Then it must be discussed. We must be able look at the results and talk about what was good and what needs to be changed. And lastly, we need to increase understanding about the process. Everyone needs to be able to comprehend what's going on. The last thing they say here is really good. We need to be tour guides and not travel agents. If you've ever been on a trip, you talk to a travel agent to book your trip and talk to them about things to do there and whatnot. But a tour guide actually goes along with you on your adventure. More than likely, he's been there before and knows allot about it to talk to you about it. That's what we need to be. Tour guides who guide people into a saving relationship with Jesus and then on to a mature relationship with Jesus who grows to be His disciple.
Tomorrow we'll look at movement: removing congestion.
Tomorrow, I believe, the Pepperdine Lectureship kickes off. I won't be going this year, but it looks like an incredible deal. The theme is on Jeremiah: The Lord's Call to Renewal. I pray for all of you who are going to the Lectureship, all the Bible class teachers, and all the keynote speakers. May all who go find their faith and understanding increased and renewed.
Be blessed!
Zack
